Duo Toivio – brother and sister Seeli and Kalle – performed in Weill Recital Hall at the Carnegie Hall in New York on Tursday, October 11th, 2012. The hall was nearly packed with audience, who heard the duo’s fine interpretations of Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 102 Nr. 1, Sebastian Fagerlund’s Rechants, Wieniawski’s Scherzo-Tarantella, and of the Rachmaninoff’s Sonata Op. 19. As in Chicago, Seeli’s performance of the violin virtuoso work on cello by Wieniawski aroused great interest and admiration.

Kalle Toivio performed the Liszt Spanish Rhapsody for piano – a strong performance of the seriously difficult and virtuostic work. Mr. Toivio received well-deserved and enthusiastic bravos from the audience. After Liszt, the duo performed the Rachmaninoff Sonata for piano and cello.

After the fine and succesfull performace of the Rachmaninoff’s nearly 45-minute Sonata for piano and cello, a full house applauded the duo back on stage many times, and they performed an encore – Jean Sibelius Romance in F Major. ”…a little souvenir from Finland”, said Seeli Toivio.

The concert by Duo Toivio at the prestigious Carnegie Hall was most succesfull. Duo Toivio will indeed perform again in the US in 2013. Looking forward!
