Finnish Music Quarterly 2/2012

Seeli Toivio’s CD is called Virtuoso Cello and that’s exactly what you get – though only 48 minutes, which these days is rather short change.
In this repertoire reclaimed from the violin she plays with the high-wire agility you rarely hear from cellists, and some of her passagework will leave you goggle-eared with amazement.
This kind of music doesn’t work without a sense of fun, and she has it in spades; her brother Kalle likewise sounds as if he is enjoying himself hugely.
